Potomac Riverkeeper Network (PRKN) notes, as it predicted, that recycling and landfill disposal are the best solution to the legacy problem of coal ash stored at Dominion Energy’s Possum Point plant in Dumfries, VA. The release of Dominion Energy’s report on coal ash recycling confirms that recycling and landfill disposal is the best solution for the four million tons of coal ash at the Possum Point power plant in Dumfries, Virginia. In response to a mandate from the Virginia legislature, Dominion solicited bids from concrete recyclers on the cost and feasibility of recycling and disposing of 27 million tons of coal ash at Dominion’s four coal ash dump sites in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Recyclers’ bids included the costs of recycling as much ash as possible and moving the remainder to a lined landfill away from our rivers, all within 15 years.
