RiverPalooza is a season-long annual event providing a wide range of on-the-water and paddling events with our Riverkeepers and in partnership with the region’s best outfitters. RiverPalooza 2017 kicks off on June 3rd with our Make a SPLASH for Clean Water Day at Harpers Ferry — including paddling, rafting, tubing and a big party with BBQ and a bluegrass band.
Volunteer to be a site leader and receive free entry and a RiverPalooza t-shirt! Sign up here.
Join your Upper Potomac Riverkeeper and Harpers Ferry Adventure Center for an exciting tubing adventure on the Potomac River to see why he works so hard to protect its beauty and clean waters! This section of the river is part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail and your float will take you past Old Town Harpers Ferry, WV and through the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers, experiencing the thrills of beginner class I-III rapids. This is an all-day pass so you can float straight through the trip or stop off on the large island-like rocks in the middle of the river for a picnic or some sunbathing.
Join your Shenandoah Riverkeeper, Potomac Riverkeeper and River Riders to run the confluence stretch of the Shenandoah where she merges with the Potomac River, putting in at Millville, hitting all the best whitewater in the Harpers Ferry area and taking out at Potoma Wayside (just upstream of the Rt. 340 bridge) – which just so happens to have a gorgeous hidden waterfall where Piney Run spills into the Potomac. We are all running the same water, but with 3 different boat configurations: Guide raft trip, Duckies (inflatable kayaks) or bring your own boat (whitewater kayaks only).
Can’t go on one of our river trips on June 3rd? You can still come to the after-party! Join Potomac Riverkeeper Network and your 3 Riverkeepers for the exciting kickoff event to RiverPalooza 2017, a four-month celebration of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers emphasizing the importance of protecting their clean waters! Join us at Harpers Ferry Adventure Center for a party to celebrate PRKN’s year-round work to keep the waters in these national treasures clean! We will have lots of cold drinks (and beer for those of age), King Street Blues BBQ and the Nashville-based The Barefoot Movement bluegrass band playing some kickass tunes to help everyone end a perfect day on the water!! Enjoy live music, BBQ (with vegetarian options) and beer on a beautiful bluff above the Potomac River just past the confluence with the Shenandoah River.
