Statement of Potomac Riverkeeper Network about adoption of new quality standard for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion by Waterkeeper Alliance
Potomac Riverkeeper Network applauds the Waterkeeper Alliance for adopting a strong commitment to Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion in the Quality Standards governing the activities of the more than 350 Waterkeeper Alliance organizations around the world. The new standards include a requirement to develop a diverse grassroots constituency committed to protecting clean water and promoting swimmable, drinkable, and fishable waters for all and a Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI) plan to ensure that these values are reflected throughout the Board, staff, and program of every Riverkeeper organization.
PRKN has already committed to JEDI through its Strategic Plan and Board-approved policy and is grateful to its JEDI Committee of board, staff, and volunteers for helping PRKN to achieve this vision. PRKN’s President, Nancy Stoner, is proud to serve on the WKA JEDI Committee as well, which developed the new Quality Standard. “PRKN has a strong commitment to ensuring that everyone, especially those most impacted by pollution, enjoy the benefits of clean water. We are eager to engage with communities throughout the watershed to make that happen, “ added Stoner.
