PRKN’s Annual Benefit Gala

The District Wharf Pier on Saturday, September 25 was the place to be! PRKN’s Party on the Pier, this year’s annual gala event, was a terrific success. Those in attendance — and the place was sold out — had a fabulous night of seeing old friends, celebrating PRKN’s successes, and engaging with the Riverkeepers and other PRKN staff. Others joined us virtually and had a great time, too.

Thanks to our sponsors and those who participated in the Mission Rally and Live and Silent Auctions; we raised over $285,000!

Would it have been possible without months of incredibly hard work by our Host Committee?
Nope. Three cheers and a huzzah to them.

This year, we celebrated under tents, but still outdoors and our research vessel, MV Sea Dog joined us! We also showcased our first-of-its-kind, in-river freshwater mussel nursery, with a special prototype cage developed in partnership with Peterson Companies and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. Guests were able to see the progress of our 50 Million Mussels project, harnessing the pollution filtering capabilities of native freshwater mussels to put some “mussel” back in the river. The “before and after” impact of mussels on dirty water is absolutely amazing.

We had lots of fun, too. A Potomac Riverkeeper Network Gala always has music, dancing, inspiring stories of the work the Riverkeepers do, and general frivolity.

Save the date for our next big event — the Clean Water Act 50th Anniversary Gala Celebration on October 8, 2022!
