SUP River Cleanup of Dyke Marsh Wildlife Preserve

Clean up

Ever wanted to get that floating plastic wrap but it is too far from the shore? This is your chance! Saturday, November 21 from 9:00 a.m. till noon — it’s a fun and helpful clean up at Belle Haven Marina.

Register Here – It’s Free and Easy

Please join Potomac Riverkeeper Network (PRKN) staff for the first paddle cleanup of the marina and surrounding waters. We are teaming up with our friends at Belle Haven Marina for easy access to the water.

You are welcome to bring your own vessel and life jacket. Canoes, single and double kayaks, and stand-up paddleboards are available for rent at the Marina. If you wish to rent with them, you must complete their Rental Agreement in advance. For more information about rental prices, please visit the Marina Rentals page.

PRKN will provide gloves, bags and grabbers/trash pickers.

This event is intended for people who feel comfortable on the water and accept the risk of falling during cold weather. However, if you would like to remain on the shore, we welcome your help, too! There is much to clean in the marina itself and surrounding trail and park.

Weather forecast predicts temperatures to be in the low 40s. Please be prepared and dress up accordingly. We suggest you bring an extra set of clothes and a towel in case you fall. We ask you to complete a safety waiver, or you can bring a signed waiver to the event. Waivers can be downloaded here.

Sign in starts at 8:00 am at the Belle Haven Marina. Parking is extremely limited at the marina, so you are welcome to drop off your vessel at the office and park at the Belle Haven Park which is adjacent to the marina.

***Update regarding social distancing***

Following the orders from the governors of Maryland and Virginia and the CDC, we will be following safe social distancing practices at our river cleanup events. We are extending the registration time for our cleanups to be one hour long, starting 30 minutes before the scheduled event start time to prevent overcrowding at the registration table. Masks must be worn at the registration table. We will be taking steps to minimize contact throughout the event. Please contact us if you have questions or concerns.
