Geographic Information Systems Intern for Upper Potomac Riverkeeper

Are you just learning about the creativity of GIS? Would you like to produce project maps and relational information for an environmental advocacy organization that protects the rights of citizens to have clean drinking water. Make your talent and inspiration of maps work for a worthy cause.

The Upper Potomac Riverkeeper (UPRK) is a regional voice for the Potomac River from Harpers Ferry to Fairfax stone. UPRK is part of a regional and worldwide network of water protectors that use advocacy and environmental laws to stop illegal pollution and fight legally permitted discharges. The development of maps through GIS has several influential uses from water trail maps that create a sense of stewardship to informational maps used on the web, social media, and public presentations. GIS is a visually powerful tool that helps our organization succeed in its mission.

We are looking for an energetic self-starter that has a passion for the environment and the drive to succeed. The internship is located in the Western MD, Eastern Panhandle WV area.

The position is an open ended volunteer internship that begins immediately. This position will include some mileage reimbursement and a 1-year subscription to ArcGIS desktop with full extensions. You are expected to work at least 10 hours a week.
